Essay Who Is To Blame In Macbeth

Decent Essays
Macbeth by William Shakespeare, I Believe that the three witches are to blame about everything that has happened in this play. Because if they had never came they would have never said the prophecies about Macbeth and Macbeth wouldn't have never been told them in the first place.

Reasons i believe this are because in act 1, scene 1, lines 1-5 ,pg.2,3 the witches are talking about when they will meet again and that is weird how they said it they said, “When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning, or in rain? The second reason i believe it is all the witches fault is because in act 1, scene 3, lines 48-50, pg.14,15The witches are meeting again and are telling macbeth about the prophecies for him. Like he will be thane of cawdor and he is already thane of glamis and that he will also become king. Macbeth wouldn't have killed the king if these prophecies were not prophesied. The third reason is in act 3, scene 5, lines 30-33, pg.124-125 because hecate the leader of the witches you would say is very angry and is

Because all the murders they had committed made Macbeth start seeing banquo’s ghost and made lady macbeth go so crazy that she committed suicide because she was having dreams about what had happened and she was acting them out about all night so she just lost it. But i don’t think it would have been lady macbeth and macbeth’s fault generally because the witches gave them these prophecies which started all of thin chaos and destruction. Even after his wife had dies Macbeth couldn't feel anything anymore. Even all the people that macbeth killed if the witches never came all of them would probably still be alive so i believe that the only one’s who are really a fault for this would be the

Hazlitt is a known literary critic. Hazlitt uses quotes to clearly portray the people truly at fault for Duncan’s murder, the Witches and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth, throughout the essay, is dismissed as being at fault for Duncan’s murder. Hazlitt mentions Macbeths mind is “assailed by the stings of remorse, and full of “preternatural soliciting’s.” Hazlitt is suggesting Macbeth is an unfit character, one that is not able to keep his emotions intact.…

Watching Macbeth at a theatre, seeing the witches would have been terrifying and they probably thought they were real witches too. I think they would have said Macbeth was possessed by some kind of spell after talking to witches and this caused him to kill the king. I think the witches had some responsibility for the death of King Duncan, but only a slight responsibility as all they did was give Macbeth there predictions of Macbeth becoming Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. Macbeth then took these predictions and made the decisions himself. The predictions merely aided his…

As earlier, the three witches told Macbeth that he would be king. Some people would probably say that the three witches are to blame. A few reasons why is because they prophesied that Macbeth would become king. In act 1, scene 1, lines 1-8, the witches were casting a spell and in the end, they said, “There to meet with Macbeth.” Some people might suggest that the witches put a curse on Macbeth to make him kill the king so he can fall down into a bottomless pit.…

The witches have a very strong effect on Macbeth’s character; they highly influence him in his achievements and expose him to his ambitions. They give Macbeth a false sense of security with their illusions of truths. Instead, they prove to be harmful for Macbeth, who buys into their truths and becomes too comfortable and confident in them. They are the one’s who initially plant the idea of murdering Duncan into Macbeth’s thoughts. Ever since the beginning, the predictions that were made by the witches had an impact on Macbeth, to the point that Banquo notices Macbeth’s reply during their encounter with them.…

Some will argue that the witches had control over him and the alternatives he had. The real reason why Macbeth became unhinged and continued to kill people isn’t because the witches had control over him but strictly the fact that he couldn’t handle the pressure from killing King Duncan. Macbeth was supposed to be a loyal servant to the king that he murdered violently, and because doing so he grew further and further away from all human impulses. Macbeth lost control over himself and lost his identity as a person, and no matter what he did it was going to haunt him for the rest of his days until death. Macbeth is just a man who became evil by himself, the witches just opened the window that he chose to climb out of.…

Although the responsibility of Macbeth’s downfall is not plainly stated as either Macbeth or the witches’ fault, it seems fair to say that the text does not place the blame entirely with either party (Snyder). Arguments can also be made that it’s not Macbeth’s fault at all, but the fault of Lady Macbeth or even the weird sisters. As a counterargument to anyone who believes that it could be the fault of the weird sisters, why didn’t Banquo also turn into a murderous fiend? While Macbeth starts to dream of the possibilities of the witches’ prophecy (2.1.7-9,1920), Banquo tactfully stays out of any plot that could possibly make the prophecy for himself come true (Cohen). Though Banquo does not have the same prophecy for himself as Macbeth did, he is still told that his children will be kings (1.3.69).…
