The feud between families caused the two to hate each other, which causes them to fight. Mercutio and Tybalt get into a fight, like usual, except that Mercutio is killed in this fight. Tybalt is then killed by Romeo in rage for his fallen cousin. The feud that the parents have encouraged not only has the two cousins killed, but also Romeo is banished due to this. “And for that offense Immediately we do exile him hence (3.1.179-180).”
Others may accuse others of this crime, such as Friar Lawrence for marrying the two or even for failing to send the message of Juliet’s fake death, or quite possibly Romeo and Juliet themselves, and though these are plausible, if someone were to follow the blame to it’s roots, you will see that the couple wouldn’t even have to love in secret if the ancestors wouldn’t have gotten in this clash in the first place.
