Essay: The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors: A View from My Roof I sit here on the garage roof before the crack of dawn gazing out at the dark sky waiting for the sun to begin to ascend over the vast horizon. I have the baby monitor in my pocket. It is producing a low sonance. Along with it you can begin to hear a small child fuss soon to be awakening from his nighttime slumber. The air is crisp and clean like your clothes when they are fresh out of the dryer and you bury your face in them and embrace the scent that takes over your sense of smell. When you take a deep breath in the cold air overtakes your lungs. As you relinquish your breath you feel the warmth of your breath hit your lips as you see it abandoning your body. The gusts of wind that engulf your whole …show more content…
As the sun nears the horizon the array of colors commence in the sky creating a beautiful picture. The way the colors blended together was almost as if it was a watercolor painting because the shades of reds, pinks, and oranges in the sky all seemed to fuse together without any hesitancy. There is a red that is extremely radiant it is almost like looking at a woman’s luscious lips that are puckered up ready to plant a juicy kiss on your lips. The red color fades into a pink that reminds you of a garden filled only with pink roses. You can close your eyes and just imagine the beautiful and rich scent of thousands of roses that surround you for miles. The pink color transitions into an orange that remind you of the giant Florida oranges in the middle of the summer. Oranges that are so plump and ripe that when you dig your nail in the peel you get a shot of the juices squirted onto your face. Then when you take a bite the flavor bursts in your mouth and lingers just long enough to coax you into getting up to enjoy one orange after another until you look down and realize that you have eaten the remainder of the sack. You can hear all the neighborhood animals …show more content…
The dogs are barking and all the birds chirping. On a branch in the near distance there sits a female cardinal on top of a minuscule amount of snow. She is very plump, has a few pops of red throughout her body and an abrupt pop of

There are few points that I found interesting in the text of Wilderness and the American Mind by Roderick Nash. The point that I mostly find interesting was that new settlers came to America. Where they don’t know even the concept of wilderness and by themselves they take courage to fight against their fears to discover a better wild land. In other word change the old world into new world so that they can make America a better place for themselves. He said that wilderness was a complicated thing for many people in the old world since they were feared of it for two reasons.…

At the crack of dawn, I wake up, trying to be as quiet as possible, intensely rummage through the refrigerator. While the sun taunts me with a beautiful spectrum of crisp orange and bright pinks creeping over the horizon, I hurry to leave my grandmother’s beach house and head over to the serene beach. On my way toward the water, dogs are seen in the distance playing in the cool sand and sticking their paws in the salty water. In addition, from laying their eggs in the sand, are long sand trails from horseshoe crabs. Finally reaching the water, I sit down and observe the sun as it slowly creeps over the horizon until the many vibrant pinks and luminous orange rays turn into a solid golden beam of sunlight.…

The film’s budget for special effects, costumes, sets, etc., was exceptionally greater than that of the theatrical production, so its overall aesthetic is much more polished and credible. The whole experience is immersive and the visuals impressively believable to behold. The overall effect, regardless of the magical elements, is much more realistic, and the setting looks like part of the real world, not a fictional land. Taking this into consideration, it is not surprising that the film had to alter the original plot to lighten the mood, as it is easy to forget that what is taking place in the film is not real. Its ending leaves the audience with much to process, but it is a great deal more positive than the theatrical ending.…

Disappointment flooded through me when I realized that 2 hours of driving through traffic was all for nothing. The air around us was thick and muggy as we set up camp. My family wanted a weekend away from the hot city temperatures of Houston to go to the slightly cooler, breezy forest only to be met with a cruel surprise. The flies were thick, and mosquitoes swarmed all around. My younger brother pressured us into starting a campfire, but the thought of flame and smoke was sickening.…

Hunt for the Wilderpeople Film Taika Waititi ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is about a young troubled adolescent boy, named Ricky. After years of being thrown around countless foster homes at the age of 13 years old, Ricky feels he has found himself a stable family environment. But with a disturbance in the family and his backyard being hundreds of miles worth of native bush, troubles arise and he finds himself running from authorities, as they are on a manhunt after suspecting Ricky has been kidnapped. Two main themes which stood out to me as a Maori viewer living between my two parents homes were how stereotypical barriers create an image for people in today’s society and how ‘family’ influence a child’s development growing up. I felt close to Ricky as he is the perfect portrayal of a young Maori boy..…

How Outdoors Impacted My Life When I was young, all I did was play outside. Being outdoors was all we did as kids. Summers consisted of long wiffle ball games that ended up being overly intense, complete eight-teen man baseball games out in the field, and huge blowout soccer games that would last hours. The last, but my most favorite activity was fishing, it is a passion I cannot stray from. From the time I could walk I have fished.…
