Marijuana was once used for medical purposes only, but is now used mainly for recreational use. Marijuana consists of dry, shredded leaves, that comes from the Hemp plant (Aanstoos). The main chemical found in Marijuana is delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, which is also known as, THC (Aanstoos). This chemical is the main cause of health problems when using marijuana. The debate of legalizing Marijuana has been around for many years, and some states are starting to legalize it for medical use only. When people start to take drugs for recreational use, they do not realize that the chemicals can result in health problems dealing with the organs in the body, the brain, and can lead to the use of harder drugs. A gateway drug is a drug that often leads to the use of harder substances (Montvilo). When people first use drugs, especially at a young age, they start with the smaller drugs such as alcohol and marijuana, which can lead the user to try cocaine, or heroine. The user tries harder drugs because they develop a tolerance, the user thinks they are invincible, and they also think they can handle it. A tolerance is when the user no longer feels the effect of the drug they are taking, which results in the user having to consume a much larger amount in order to feel the desired effect (Chara). Users can develop a tolerance with any drug. When they develop a tolerance, it causes the user to try a harder drug because they are not feeling the effect they want. Tolerance depends on certain things such as the type of drug, the amount consumed, and how often the user takes the drug (Chara). When a user thinks they are invincible, they believe that nothing can defeat them. Since they feel invincible, it makes them believe they can take any drug without harm to their bodies, or their health. This causes the user to experiment with other drugs such as
