Essay Thank You Letter For Scholarship

I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous contribution to the Charlotte W. Newcombe scholarship program. I was both delighted and honored to receive this award and I'm writing this letter to convey my gratitude. This $1,000 scholarship is a great help in covering the cost of materials to aid my education at Temple University, such as a tape recorder, books and special computer software. If I am being totally honest with you, I never expected that I would be able to attend college let alone say I am well on my way to a bachelors degree in psychology. You see, at the age of 13 my carefree, independent days quickly ceased. In a matter of days I went from an active, free-spirited teenager, to a girl who couldn't even get out of bed. I no longer had the energy to go to school, let alone enjoy my extracurricular activities. Over the next couple years the hospital became my home. It was really hard in the beginning. Simple tasks such as standing and bathing became impossible. I had to let go of my independence and pride. My life revolved around my health …show more content…
However, I was determined to rebuild my life from those very foundations. Although my days are filled with challenges, this illness has taught me to cherish the little things like standing, and breathing etc, and not take them for granted. I learned to live day by day and not expect anything else. I’m lucky to be alive today. I’m not bitter, but thankful. So from my hospital bed and against my doctors advice and wishes, I decided to find a way to finish my high school degree. With the help of family friends who knew a little about the education system and my local public school’s counselor, we arranged tutors who would come to wherever I was to teach me my material. We also arranged online classes in which I could do my work at any time of day. Against all odds, I graduated high school in 2012 and I plan to carry that strength and spirit throughout my college

I began my educational journey at Georgia State University as an enthusiastic pre-medicine major with a very unrealistic goal of taking on the world. I told myself I would sacrifice anything to become a doctor, including accepting the possibility of never having children due to how hard it would be for me to spend quality time with them. I constantly worried about the finances required for my education, if my parents had the necessary funds to pay their bills, and much more. As far as my academic performance, I was never satisfied with my science grade point average. I felt inferior to my classmates who seemed to absorb and comprehend information at a faster rate in comparison to me.…

Teddy Roosevelt once said that nothing worth having comes easy. With this in mind, I have actively spent my high school years working to ensure that my success and achievements are fruits of hard work and perseverance, rather than sheer luck. These past four years, I have dedicated my young mind to absorbing the valuable knowledge that pools before me in my rigorous AP courses. In addition, I also invested a good portion of my time into my school’s band program. Although balancing academics and such a demanding extracurricular activity was difficult, I managed to find the time to also participate in very rewarding organizations such as National Honor Society, among others.…
