Backgrounder: This war had an estimated 50 million military and civilian deaths, including the 6 million Jews. World War 2 was the start of a nuclear war. Domestically, this war ended the Great Depression. At the same time, African Americans strived towards achieving their political, economic and social rights. The Axis powers, Germany, Italy, and Japan, against the Allies, United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union.
