Essay On Yusef Lateef

Yusef Lateef born on October 9, 1920, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Five years later he and his family packed up and moved to Detroit. In the vast musical environment in Detroit, he began to form some long lasting friendships with people such as Curtis Fuller, Kenny Burrell, and Lucky Thompson. Yusef became proficient at the tenor saxophone in high school and by the time he was eighteen he was touring with swings bands. Yusef was asked to join swing bands ran by two jazz masters Harley Toots and the man the myth the legend Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra in 1949. He then went back to Detroit in 1950 and started attending Wayne State University where he studied music composition and flute.

Yusef Lateef has won many awards in music in 2007 he achieved an award from Massachusetts University artist of the year. He has also had achievements in teaching he has a bachelor degree and masters degree in music education from Manhattan university of music. Lateef he also has his own day in San Francisco, California. Bill Clinton invited Yusef to the white house in 2000 for a state dinner. He is also obviously a Nea Jazz Master inducted in 2010 he later got a letter from President Obama congratulating him for his award. One of Lateef must respected pieces was Morning on his Jazz Mood album. The song was recorded on April 9, 1957, in New York City. This piece has a very eastern style but is still dreamy along with it. Another of Yusef’s most respected pieces is Love Theme From The Robe on his Eastern sounds album.
