Essay On Yann Martel's Life Of Pi

In the story Life of Pi Yann Martel describes the life of a young boy raised on a zoo has a life changing event in his teenage years. He speaks of his views on his life before the sinkage of the great ship that kills all of his family and the animals he grew up beside. He is left stranded in the middle of the Pacific ocean on a 26ft long lifeboat with a tiger and no possibility of being rescued. This leaves our young Pi in a state of grim thinking back on his life and questioning choices he has made previously. Until his realization that he must learn to live beside this huge tiger, Richard Parker, on the lifeboat that may be the difference between life and death. He uses Richard Parker to show God and and the elements around him as the truth of the world and cruelties that those must endure, but can still have faith in god. Through it all even having to lower himself to such savagery and animalistic instincts he doesn't lose faith in God and his previous beliefs. The author uses this story to allow people to deeply dive into their beliefs in religion and faith in God himself. He shows the harshness that world can bring with life, but urges you to stick with your faith and continue to live and endure life no matter how things are. This story is truly an inspiring story that has brought those who wish to listen, to question their religious beliefs. Within the story you can see how Pi’s character has changed and adapted to live with what has happened to him. Also letting us see where the author Yann Martel uses the story as a tool to shift readers who wish to truly read and understand the religious features in the story.
