Essay On Wrestling Practice

For four years the second Monday in November till the last full weekend in February I have slaved away in the wrestling mat room to try and qualify and make the top eight wrestlers in the state championship tournament. Most years haven’t been successful, but last year was different. In The November of 2015, on the Monday that wrestling practice was planned to start, I showed up to practice after all day at school to meet my teammates for the year and plan out the season. This year been my fourth time doing this routine. I thought I knew what I was to expect, until my coach, Esvelt, walked up to me doing his little happy dance and whispered to me that he had already decided my goal for the year, in the past years I haven’t managed to medal at state, so this goal came as a big shock, He wanted me to earn the state champion spot. I immediately started thinking about how I couldn’t …show more content…
I was stuck sitting with the team managers during practice working through the exercises the physical therapist had given me. The pain had dulled to a persistent soreness in my neck and upper body that could easily be managed by taking double doses of aspirin. The day after I got my neck brace off I returned to practice. I tried to jump right back into practice, eager to make up the time I had lost, until Esvelt broke it to me that I would be having no contact or extreme workouts for another two weeks. I faithfully went through the easy training plan, becoming more frustrated that I couldn’t be with my team fully. When I was caught pushing harder than I should have, Esvelt decided that I had lost all responsibility for determining how hard work out that day. Coaches had to monitor me the entire practice. In those monitored practices, I always tried to squeeze in more and more work. I was getting behind my competition. I thought I would never catch up; I had regressed too

As a student in high school I was on the wrestling team. My senior year I would occasionally wrestle up weight classes, taking on opponents who were 25 pounds larger than myself. This was done in an effort to win overall team points in the majority of weight classes while giving up points in as few weight classes as possible. At one meet I was asked to wrestle up 2 weight classes against a difficult opponent who was supposed to beat any of our wrestlers, and someone from a heavier weight class would cut weight to wrestle in my place to guarantee a win in my spot. The only objective my coach had for me was to lose by as few points as possible, and in his eyes that would be as good as a win.…

The discourse community for wrestling is different from most that I have heard. It could be similar to most high school sports because every high school has their own way of saying things.
