Gender Stereotypes Against Women

In 2008 I found out I was pregnant, and not long after, I found out we were expecting twins. I could not wait to find out if we were having two boys, two girls, or one of each. It seemed like the day would never come. I longed to go out and start buying clothes, and planning their nursery. As I lay on the bed, with all the ultrasound gel on my stomach, wand moving around, I felt so nervous. The sonographer wrote "It 's a" and then paused for what felt like an eternity then finished with "girl!" I was so happy. At least one baby was a girl. She went to the next baby, and again I was nervous, and again the long pause after "It 's a". Would it be a boy? Would my husband and father-in-law feel disappointed if it was not a boy? I knew that my husband was the last chance to carry on the family name, and if it was another girl, the …show more content…
Is it because women are not capable of playing? Obviously it would be dangerous for women to play up against men, with the size difference, but why can 't women play against women? Likely because society has deemed that as masculine, and something only men do. They are socialized to be rough and tough. You see fathers play fighting with their sons, who will punch, hit, and kick gently to play. You almost never see a father playing with their daughter in this manner, or someone might call the authorities on him. Why is it ok to play this way with a boy, but not a girl? Because society has said so, that 's why. We are so overly socialized in this matter, that it just does not happen. Some girls grow up, and want to box, or fight. It is immerging more and more now, with women like Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Meisha Tate becoming well known names in the UFC industry. I, personally, think any of these ladies could fight some men, and win. They are strong, flexible, and agile. Men do not move like women, so they would have the advantage against some men, most definitely not

In the article titled “Face-Off on the playing Field,” Judith B. Stamper explorers the issue of female athletes competing on traditional boys’ sports teams. First, stamper explains how opponents argue that girls are not aggressive enough. They say that playing contact sports like football and wrestling put girls at risk of serious physical harm. The author also reports that some male athletes are uncomfortable having physical contact with girls. Some boys feel that it is wrong or ungentlemanly to be aggressive toward girls.…

Those are the reasons that I think that boys and girls should be in different sports. It would be ac ward if you walk onto the football field and you hit a girl so hard she cries and then you look bad for doing what you're supposed to do. It would also be weird if you were a boy…

It is easy for people in the 21st century to spit males and females apart during sport/physical activity due to their gender. females can play just as rough and as strong in a competitive environment and should be allowed to participate in male dominent sports. Some people don't want girls to play on 'boys sports teams' for fear that they will get hurt. This has not been proven because girls haven't been given the chance to play with the boys.…

Often times, people perceive women as weak - it's seen in the fairytales with the dainty damsel in distress, waiting for a man to save her, as seen even in modern takes of stories like Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. This sort of submissive take on females has been told over and over since the beginning of our history when men hunted and left women to give birth and gather fruits. The weakness of women has been woven into story after story, until we believe it to be a universal truth and allow men to take dominant roles in society. After all, men like Prince Charming are perceived to be stronger for a reason - men generally have more of the hormone testosterone, which increases muscle mass and makes them look stronger. Women tend to develop more estrogen than testosterone, and naturally less muscle mass than men while being more emotionally vulnerable due to menstrual periods (they are also more prone to depression than males).…

Although girls should be treated equal and have the right to play sports with boys, it isn't a good idea. Girls are injured more, the salaries are different, and they get less views than men’s sports. Girls may have the ability to play on a boys sports team but due to their fragile body structure they should not be allowed to play with dominant men. Because sports were designed to represent male fitness, they play to men’s natural strengths. When boys hit puberty, their bodies produce more testosterone, while triggers muscle growth and helps fuel aggression and competitive instincts.…

This mentality of looking pretty, to attract male attention, and being weak and vulnerable strikes a certain nerve in the hearts of women. A woman plays many roles – she is not only a sister but also a wife and a mother. These generalizations demeans a woman however, we are expected to keep ourselves in check and forced to conform to these rules so that we are not…

Although different societies have various definition about masculine and feminine, they all put certain stereotypes on both male and female. In the human society we currently live in, masculine is described as athletic, encyclopedic, and bravery, whereas women is portrayed in the exact opposite way: instead of being praised by intelligence, women are valued primarily because they pleased to men or their capability of bearing children. No matter how hard women tried to prove themselves in front of men – by showing themselves strong and sinewy on their own definition – they would be ignored whatsoever: in the view of masculine, women are always the ones who are somehow inferior than men. The human society conventionally view masculine as strong, undefeated, mighty and intelligent.…

In todays society, there is still a contradictory kind of existence for both women, as well as men, stemming from woman’s historical and societal situation. Simone de Beauvoir argued for this by saying, “Women are the perfect intermediary between nature that is foreign to men and the peer who is too identical to him” (Beauvoir 160). What she is saying by this is that women need to be perfect, they need to have the perfect balance between being submissive and being too submissive, between being passive and to competitive. Historically, women were seen as inferior, and this has led to many stereotypes, but most importantly this has led to them having a contradictory kind of existence.…
