Did you know that one third of all Americans don’t believe 6 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust? Should media coverage be censored to protect society, or is freedom of speech the most important thing? Nothing should be censored in the media, or in life at all for that matter, in order to “protect us”; it is unteaching compassion and peace, and will create a massive grey area in the 30 rights of human life. In the first place, people in positions of power too often take advantage of propaganda to feed their own agenda. For over 15 years, Americans thought they were winning the Vietnam war because their presidents had said so. Moreover, although the media can soften the coverage of the events their circulating, in the end it should still be up to the individual person to decide to dive deeper into media. When they’re ready, any information they need should be available to them. In Japanese schools, subjects pertaining to their involvement in WWII, such as imperialism and warfare techniques, have been minimized and glossed over inside their textbooks in order to fabricate a better image for their country. You can argue that certain things should be censored in order to protect the innocence of children, however innocence is sometimes mistaken for ignorance. This doesn’t mean that warning labels like ‘PG’ and ‘Explicit’ have to be removed. In fact, they don’t have to be removed at all. The point should be to make the truth conveniently accessible for the masses, instead of blatantly spreading lies that no one will question. Furthermore, rather than throwing everything out there for young children to learn on their own, warning labels should be encouraged, as should the proper education to prepare them for the real
