Was the Renaissance a revolution?
The Renaissance was the cultural revolution that took place in Europe from the 14th century to the 17th century. Prior to the Renaissance, life in Europe was very static. This meaning that Europe had no major achievements or new revolutionary developments. During the Renaissance, European culture began to change because Europeans were now getting a better education, trading, and growing in many different ways. A revolution is a radical change in government or culture. This leads to questioning if the Renaissance was indeed a revolution. Based on the definition of revolution, the Renaissance was indeed revolutionary due to the development of science, art, and medicine. These aspects make the Renaissance revolutionary because, without these discoveries, there would be a gape in modern knowledge leading to the fact that many modern inventions and modern knowledge would be non existent.
One of many reasons that the Renaissance is classified as a revolution is due to the scientific developments that took place during this time. These scientific developments consist of the heliocentric theory, the scientific method, and the laws of gravity. This supports the concept that the Renaissance is revolutionary because, without the knowledge of humans physical selves, many important medical instruments and discoveries would not have been made.
