The legalization of marijuana has caused lots of controversy. Many want to keep it illegal because of those who use it for recreational use. Marijuana is already legal in many states, but there are still many people who cringe at the thought of it being legal in theirs. Marijuana should be legalized, not for recreational use, but for medicinal because it helps people treat their disease.

One reason marijuana should be legal is because it can not cause death to the user. Alcohol and cigarettes are legal, and there are about 6 million deaths per year caused by tobacco, and 2.5 million deaths per year by alcohol. There have been no recorded deaths from a marijuana overdose. Marijuana is not dangerous, but for some reason the things that can kill someone are legal. If medical marijuana becomes legal, it should only be prescribed to people over their 20’s. Around the age of 20 years, the brain is fully developed, so there would be no long/short term side affects to the user. There would be no harm towards the user. Marijuana would be completely harmless, so there should be no reason it should be illegal.
