Deciding to become a Nurse, was something that felt very natural to me. It emanated naturally because as a child, I was the one who always cared, and thought about the wellbeing of others. As time went on, those traits from my character continued to grow, and new experiences would eventually lead me to this challenging, but yet rewarding career. My first experience occurred, while volunteering at a local Health Department. There were so many different roles of nursing that I was exposed to, and while there, I witnessed the caring, compassion and knowledge, that nurses gave to their patients, and that made me want to pursue nursing further.

That is why I aspire to earn my Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in the role of family nurse practitioner. I enjoy my present role as a registered nurse and STD Clinician at the Health Department. However, my goal is to pursue further education and advance into a more analytical facet of the profession. I feel that with my experience and commitment to providing primary care to the underserved, I can offer a more holistic and understanding perspective that is unique to nurse practitioners. After completing my education, I plan to become an active member of nurse practitioner associations as well as take part in primary care initiatives and clinics, particularly in the underserved communities. The FNP graduate program at the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences offers expert faculty, community outreach programs, evidence -based research and networking opportunities. I also feel that I would be able to heighten my leadership experience with opportunities assisting faculty with research opportunities and evolving my own confidence in becoming a practitioner. A long term goal is to be prepared as an advanced nurse practitioner, and continue with my studies to advance my knowledge at the doctorate level. I believe that I will become a nurse practitioner that will serve the public with compassion, and dedication to continuing education. And I know that those goals will be achieved with guidance from Jacksonville
