Essay On Why I Want To Be A Peer Advisor

1. Why do you want to be a Peer Advisor? When I came to freshman orientation in the fall of 2015, I had so many questions to ask and yet no one to answer these questions. As a timid freshman, I did not know many upperclassmen, and as time passed by, even more questions developed. I would have loved to go to my advisory and have all these questions answered and more. Despite the amount of thoughts running through my head, hearing others share the same concerns I had would have been a relief. In some cases, I believe that hearing from an upperclassmen is more meaningful than an advisory leader, and I would love to be that junior with a familiar face in times of stress. I feel as though I have much knowledge and experience that I would bring forth as a Peer Advisor because I have utilized my time at Merion by joining various clubs, sports teams, and service activities. I want to be a Peer Advisor because I would use these past experiences to encourage the freshman to try what they ordinarily would never think of doing. I have a very positive attitude and enthusiastic school spirit and I would be a great asset as a Peer Advisor.

I have a general background of the athletics and how to manage your time properly because I played volleyball and basketball for two years. I would help teach the freshman about all the different clubs you can join, and answer any specific questions they had. A mix of activities at Merion would not be complete without participating in service, so I would encourage them to sign up for trips to Cradles to Crayons and the many service clubs that support people locally. I am a member of Kate’s Girls and I am able to see how far a simple Thanksgiving card

Never underestimate the influence of the human spirit. Human beings are able to impact and inspire each other. The same concept may be applied towards the perception of peer pressure which has triggered varied responses amongst people. There has been a misconception in the way the term “pressure” is perceived, often associated with negativity and unpleasant matters. However, there is also the delightful aspect of peer pressure in which teenagers, especially a student, can conform and behave ‘like’ other members of a peer group, which is not necessarily a bad thing.…

As an undergrad at LSU, I changed my major from History to Liberal Arts (Art History Concentration), had my first experiences working in a library, and learned to value hard work, a willingness to learn from those higher up and even those lower than me, and a desire to work in a quiet environment. It was in my three years as a Student Assistant at Hill Memorial Library, first in Microfilming and then in Digital Services, that I first thought library work could be a possible career option. However, this thought wouldn’t become my definite goal until much later. As a Student Assistant, I got to do tasks as varied as ironing newspapers, microfilming newspapers, and using a Digibook or Epson scanner to do scans of rare books, facsimiles, and photographs…
