In order to expand my understanding and advance my practical skills in looking after patients with haematological disorders, a professional nursing body I would need to join is the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia and receive specific training in administering chemotherapy drugs (Clinical Oncological Society of Australia, 2008). As a result, receiving competency will ensure that chemotherapy medications are stored appropriately, adequate training in the management of adverse events, safe preparation, handling, administration and disposal with accordance to professional and legal responsibilities is upheld (Cancer Nurses Society of Australia [CNSA], 2010). The specific education and training modules that are necessary for administering anti-cancer therapies can be accessed through the …show more content…
One of the options comprise of studying through the Australian College of Nursing and undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing. During the course, I can choose electives that are specific to haematology such as the Blood and Marrow Transplantation unit of study (Australian College of Nursing, 2017, “Blood and Marrow Transplantation”). The content can assist in the understanding of the whole journey of the donor transplant and the patient receiving the stem cell transplant (Australian College of Nursing, 2017, “Blood and Marrow Transplantation”). The Graduate Certificate will equip me in caring for patients who have MM and are undergoing haemopoeitic transplantation. After the completion of the program, certain subjects are eligible to be used as credit towards a Graduate Diploma or Master degree in Cancer and Haematology Nursing (Australian College of Nursing, 2017, “Haematology Nursing”). Therefore, this will allow me to pursue this chosen career path as a haematology nurse and possible leadership
