There are many arguments about whether or not a book should be banned from public schools. Most school districts have banned books for many reasons like for containing racial topics, political views, and religious views. Some people believe that certain books include too much negativity. This is what caused The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to be targeted by some school districts because of the different controversial issues contained in it. However, there are also many positive things that students can learn from this book. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should not be banned because of its learning benefits.

Many people back then had fathers that could have been considered to be abusive. “You think your better than your father, don’t you, because he can’t? I’ll take it out on you” (Twain 21). Also, a lot of white people considered the majority of black people as slaves. “Because Mary Jane will be in the morning from this out; and first you know the nigger that does up the rooms will get an order to box these up and put them away; and do you reckon a nigger can run across money and not borrow some of it?” (Twain 162). This just shows the harsh life back then in the 1800s.

Huck had to go to Sunday-school every week Sunday. “There was Sunday school, you could a gone to it; and if you’d a done it they’d a learnt you there that acts as I’d been acting about that nigger goes to everlasting fire” (Twain 193). Also, Huck learned about religion from a widow. Huck stated, “After supper she got out her book and learned me about Moses and the bulrushes” (Twain 6). Even though his living situation doesn’t seem that bad, Huck still has a difficult
