Many people back then had fathers that could have been considered to be abusive. “You think your better than your father, don’t you, because he can’t? I’ll take it out on you” (Twain 21). Also, a lot of white people considered the majority of black people as slaves. “Because Mary Jane will be in the morning from this out; and first you know the nigger that does up the rooms will get an order to box these up and put them away; and do you reckon a nigger can run across money and not borrow some of it?” (Twain 162).
