Employees should have the right to a reasonable amount of privacy “A co-worker who was changing light bulbs, one day in October, 1995, stumbled on the camera, lying on a newly installed shelf near the ceiling. He pulled the tape from it and watched the video with Nelson, who was shocked to see herself changing clothes” (Lewis 20). Gail Nelson was a secretary at Salem State College in the Small Business Development Center. She choked, when she saw a videotape in which she was changing her clothes. Not even she, nobody will tolerate these type of violation of privacy. Ethic defines the difference between right and wrong. Ethically, the major factor of privacy is individual’s intention. Invading another person’s personal life, every person has some motive behind his action of invasion. If a person is snoop another person without his permission, then this is morally wrong. It is hard to justify person’s aim behind his act. If the person’s intention is wrong, then it is like a criminal offence. Not everyone wants to share his private life with others. Nowadays, the practice of snooping is increasing on workplaces. In big business firms, employees’ email, messages and online activities are tracked down with the help of special software. This software monitors the activity of the worker from morning to evening without his permission. Spying on their workers, employers are using digital gadgets. Bill Bryson explains that two major electronic companies develop an ‘active badge’ which sends an infrared signal in fifteen second to track the position of the worker in the building even he goes to the toilet or to drink water (321). In this article “Snoopers at Work” the aim behind the tracking of the worker’s activities is to increase the productivity and to ensure that they are consuming time in a creative way. No doubt, the Employer has some rights about privacy concern on the workplace because of employee’s reliability and to check that they are working properly. Reliability means to trust on someone. Reliability depends upon the relationship between worker and manager. The environment of the workplace should be friendly. There should be filtration process uses while reading the emails of employees and separate professional emails from personal emails. If the area is under surveillance, then people should have the knowledge about that. One thing is clear that advancement in technology will increases the level and standard of snooping. Everything will happen in the womb of the future and there will be a number of possibilities and outcomes to keep personal stuff
