Horace Mitchell from “Should College Student- Athletes Be Paid?” said, “Students are not professional athletes who are paid salaries and incentives for a career in sports” (Horace Mitchell. Vol 5. Issue 52, p 17-17. p.1). In a way he does make a very good argument about it because they’re still student athletes in college and having a free education with their scholarships. They should not be paid in salaries because they’re still student athletes and not professional athletes. Also he goes on to say, “They are students receiving access to a college education through their participation in sports, for which they earn scholarships to pay tuition, fees, room and board, and other allowable expenses” (Horace Mitchell. Vol 5. Issue 52, p 17-17. p.1). He is right because they do get a lot of benefits from the universities. From room and board which can cost a lot of money and tuition is payed for. Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Should NCAA athletes be paid by Alexis molina I fully think that NCAA athletes should be paid for their effort on their college team. College athletics have gained immense popularity among Americans over the past few decades. This has resulted into increased in a lot of money for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the participating colleges, which has sparked the debate of whether college athletes should be given money beyond their athletic scholarships but I think they should get paid for the following reason they should be paid because without the players that risk injuries on the team the association would not make the money they do now and their coaches get paid but why not them and most importantly students after…

Many Division 1 athletes can receive up to $60,000 multiyear scholarships and some Division 2 athletes can receive partial scholarships. They are getting these scholarships to help pay for an education because most of them can’t afford to go to a Division 1 or Division 2 school. Also these players are bringing in money for their schools by TV contracts, advertising, merchandising and ticket sales. The top men’s basketball and football teams can bring in about $140 million a year and by doing that, it can help them have those scholarships. Another reason I don’t think that college athletes should get paid, is because they are getting a free education…

Pay for Play? Dave Anderson, Laura Freedman, Lee Goldman, and Peter Goplereus III have all written articles on whether or not the NCAA should pay their student athletes. Their articles, “Top 10 Reasons College Athletes Should be Paid”, “Pay or Play”, “Should College Athletes Be Paid”, and “No Control Over Their Rights” all provide many reasons as to why student athletes deserve payment. The NCAA is in the wrong for accepting “free labor” from these athletes. Although many student athletes are on scholarships, often times it is not enough, so they deserve fair compensation.…

This is crazy because all these players get so many extra things provided to them already so why should they need to get paid. If they want to get paid they should work hard and make it to the pros. If the athletes that play college sports were to get paid those schools would lose a lot of money because it would be way too expensive to pay all of these athletes. You have to keep in mind that they already have to pay the coaches and teachers let alone athletes. From another aspect of looking at if college athletes should be paid or not is that it would take away how the players play the game.…

What many fail to realize is that college athletes often stress over paying for daily necessities. Further compensation would elude some of the common stresses college athletes have on a daily basis such as buying food, paying for gas, and many other essential living needs. In addition, no matter how famous a player may be it is a violation of the rules for a player to profit from their fame. In fact college athletes can be fined for violating many strict rules or regulations.…

According to Scholastic, “NCAA says top athletes get other benefits, like scholarships often covering tuition”. This says, athletes are getting help with their tuition so there is no need for them to be payed. One piece of evidence to back this up from The New York Times is, “The athletes at the University of Texas already received 3.1 million dollars in scholarship money”. This shows that scholarship athletes shouldn’t be paid because they are already receiving funds to assist with tuition.…

I think that college athletes should get paid because they are working hard by going to practice and learning new things to make them better and other people besides the college athletes are getting paid. The first reason why I think college athletes should get paid is because when they show up for practice they play hard to get better and win games and I think that If they get paid it will help them pay for the college there going to and make them want to keep playing the sport.…

Should college athletes be paid for playing? No, they should not because they are already getting scholarships, the colleges might not be able to afford to pay them, and because playing the sport is not a job. Athletes are already getting scholarships, do they really need or deserve to get paid as well? They only play for one season a year, but the scholarships help them all year round, so why do they deserve even more money during the season.
