"Admit that there is such a thing as white privilege," these were the first words Jon Stewart said to Bill O’Reilly in their latest interview last Wednesday night on The Daily Show. Recently, O’Reilly had devoted several episodes in his show to challenge and deny the existing of white privilege in the United States. It all started in June, where he stated on his show that he should not be included under the white privilege banner, because he grew up in Long Island and worked at an ice cream shop. He added, "I 'm a really white guy -- when I was in Hawaii last week I couldn 't go in the sun … My parents didn 't have a lot of money ... I didn 't experience [white privilege] when I worked in Carvel, painted houses, cut lawns." (Taibi 2014a) Later in August, O’Reilly hosted Megyn Kelly - the well-known defender of White Santa - to discus the topic of white privilege again. …show more content…
Few days later, O’Reilly came back to list Talking Points Memo on his show, under the name The Truth About White Privilege. He said, "There is no question that African-Americans have a much harder time succeeding in our society … Even whites do. But the primary reason is not skin color. It 's education and not only book learning.” He also argued that Asian-Americans (all of them) do better in school, have less unemployment rates, and earn more income compared to both whites and

Are the choices of minorities dependent upon their race? Following the reading of a journal excerpt was written by Peggy Mcintosh (1998), White Privilege unpacking the invisible knapsack, I was able to examine the privilege of choice as determined by law. The law assumes free-will recognizing one's ability to rationalize the cost and benefit of particular behavior prior to committing an act. The law applying to all of its citizens is assumed equally enforced; that the privilege of choice is an entitlement. Although, the law is applied as it stands according to those who have the authority to implement it as they interpret it.…

In the article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” by Peggy McIntosh, there is the discussion of white privilege being some sort of invisible benefit that accompanies whites while they remain oblivious to it. McIntosh then goes into how she came about her stance of white privilege through her studies in male privilege over women. In this stance, McIntosh stated how men were unable to acknowledge the idea that they were privileged compared to women but were able to say that women were in a disadvantaged position. She connects this idea with her statement on white privilege by showing how the men’s denial was similar to the denial of whites and their state of privilege over the other races. McIntosh saw this disadvantaged state…

I agree with Johnson’s explanation because I believe white people are immune to a lot of challenges minorities are faced with. However, the term “White Privilege” is something that most Americans don’t believe is real, despite the large amount of evidence that proves otherwise. This is an advantage white people have without realizing it, until it is suddenly taken away. The evidence that shows the advantages that white people have over other colors is overwhelming, but every time the term “white privilege” is mentioned, there is an unavoidable…

: Yes, in my article, White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack, I name over 25 privileges that I have because I am white. I see my skin color as an advantage to anything I wanted to achieve. This advantage over other racial groups is called white privilege. I believe that this privilege could be identified by white Americans by first realizing that we have this privilege.…

I believe in what these author trying to tell us that people have a different way of seeing what a “White Privilege” is and how it can affect a person to see it in a racist way. I do believe that social media is one of the reasons why kids grow up to be ignorant and racist. Social media change the perception of what race really is, and that race does not have to be different. We all bleed in the same color, and that no race is above other. After reading DiAngelo and Mclntosh, I don’t think that white privilege exist anymore, and DiAngelo is the proved.…

In the selected article, Campbell describes his reflection on times in his life where he was met with challenges due to his race. These challenges directly attacked his perceived way of life based off of assumptions as opposed to facts and evidence. As a white male, Campbell argues that he has had no racial privilege and more so that privilege is not attached to race but many other attributes. Campbell refuses to acknowledge “white privilege” and prefers to address emotional stereotypes that are taken as fact. By applying reason over emotion the reader is able to see that “white privilege” is accordingly just a privilege and not inherent of race.…

Privilege is a special right granted to a specific person or group of people. Historically, whites have been more privileged and cannot relate with the mistreatment blacks have suffered through such as, slavery, lynchings, and Jim Crow laws. In “Reasonable Doubt and the Lost Presidential Debate of 2012,” black professor Kiese Laymon hopes to expose and educate white people about the hardships associated with being black through his imitation of a presidential debate.…

So I ask this in response to Fortgang’s article: does white privilege still benefit white people who struggle or have struggled in the past? The historical background of racism white Americans have towards black Americans and the introduction to racial attitudes and discrimination in America is thoroughly addressed by Winthrop Jordan in The White Man’s Burden. Jordan abundantly documents the substantial evolution of slavery’s form. He begins the analysis by describing when the Englishmen first traveled to West Africa and the numerous encounters they had with the Africans. The Englishmen would regular navigate to Africa, but only to trade goods with the Natives. Jordan writes how the African man was generally recognized as just another sort of man to the Englishmen.…

The article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” was written to inform the reader about white privilege and male privilege. It states that men necessarily do not realize that they hold an advantage over women just as though whites do not always realize they are more privileged than blacks. The author Peggy McIntosh thoroughly describes that just by being born with white skin, you automatically are at an advantage over someone who was not born white. She also explains that men do in fact recognize women’s status in the world and will do certain things to improve it. However, they are unwilling to do anything to lessen their own privilege.…

To acknowledge a superior advantage is the first step to changing the world. Majority of white people seem surprised at the fact that there is still a divide between races in modern times. They’ve taken the pretentious viewpoint of claiming that they don’t ‘see race’ that they just ‘the person’ and while that might be what most activists are striving towards in modern times, all that really means is that they are benefiting from the privileges of being white. It is almost impossible to relate to someone who is struggling because of their skin color when the privileged have never had to face such unfair and unjust effects because of the way they look. I am white, I am female, and those are facts.…

‘It’s often said that it is lonely at the top, but it’s also an anxious place to be, because you live in constant fear of falling’” (Blake 3). This man understands that whites have privileges, but then justifies their terrible actions by stating that they needed to do it to stay the majority. In the book The New Racism: Reverse Discrimination in America the author says “... it will be the black society that will acquire superior rights and benefits at his expense” (Lokos 388). This is another example of whites claiming that they are being oppressed because people of color are gaining power.…
