“I bet you wouldn’t be doing this if I was white!” This statement, or a variation of it, has been at least in the mind at least once of every black person. But why? Is it because they’re trying to make everything about race? Or is it something deeper in their understanding about a certain preference society has placed due to stereotypes? The true answer is that most black people recognize and tend to point out the presence of white privilege. White privilege tends to show is recognizable presence when a black person is quicker to be assumed to be a criminal in a situation before a white person, when a black person is given a harsh sentence for a crime where a white person probably would have gotten a lighter sentence (or even gone free), and a black person is continuously a victim of preconceived notions when applying for a job, registering for college, or other things in life. To begin with, white privilege tends to be seen alive and well when a black person is quickly to be accused a criminal, while a white person is more like …show more content…
Imagine going to a place of employment, applying for a position, but being passed up by someone who had the same credentials and skills as you. The only difference is their skin color. Or registering for college and being overlooked by someone who was just a qualified to be in that college as you. The only difference is the color of their skin. Wouldn’t that cause anyone to look more into why this happens? Why people seem to overlook them because of their skin color and people with their same skin color?
