1. Which actions by the teacher seemed to support student engagement and understanding?
When first getting the data table ready for the experiment Dr. Bradbury was asking students probing questions about why the data table had to be set up in a certain manner, this can be seen in minutes 6-8 of the video. Through this portion of the video Dr. Bradbury is making sure students have a full understanding of what a data table does and how the each data table is set up. While setting up the table she was able to made sure to ask students questions about why time, temperature of the sand, and temperature of the water were in designated areas of the table. Through this example, she was able to make sure all students were engaged and had a clear

Bradbury was providing directions for the students she would give a long list of directions to students; shown in minutes 10:45-13 of the video. However, when she did give instructions she would model what students should do during each step of the direction. This was especially shown when she was showing the class how to appropriately fill the beakers with water and sand. During this section of the video because she was so explicit about how to fill the sand and water, as well as what temperature the water needed to be, there were very little questions about what each students should be doing. However, when Dr. Bradbury was discussing the heat lamps she did not model how to set up the heat lamp and there were more questions from each of the groups then the water and sand. Through this there is evidence that through careful modeling students are able to see what activities should look like and appropriately follow directions.

5. What changes might the teacher have made to facilitate additional student learning?
Two ideas that could have been changed to facilitate student learning is giving more explicit instructions to students at the end of the experiment as well as having a more planned way of getting materials to students desks. Through these two changes students would have had less time to chat and get off task. These were the two areas in the video where it is the most evident that students are participating in off task behavior. Through more instruction in these two areas of the video students would have more time to engage in in-depth learning.

Many religions in today’s society are founded upon obedience. For those people who choose the religious path, they follow the teachings and guidance of a man who speaks to a higher power without question. Even those who have not chosen the religious path, still follow blindly to a higher authority. The human mind unconsciously desires to follow the majority’s demands, because humans have a psychological need to feel accepted by those around them. Two social psychologists, Solomon E. Asch, Stanley Milgram, and an author by the name of Doris Lessing were intrigued by the concept of obedience.…

The students in Mrs. Bunkers 2nd period class were students that did great in school and were taking advanced level classes. The students were not being challenged in class and did not want to do some of the regular things that Mrs. Bunker had them doing like reading the textbook. Miller in, The book Whisperer said “I have learned that students hunger for more information, beyond what their social studies textbooks offers if we go the extra mile to provide it” (Miller, 2009, p. 79). Providing additional text and information could encourage a student to learn more about the subject outside of the classroom and encourage a love for learning. Many students want to know how the information connects to their lives or how the information connects to society today.…
