When you kill a best friend, it’s not the easiest thing to do, but when it is for their best interest, it makes it easier to understand why. When George kills Lennie in the Salinas Valley, it is significant because this is where the book started and ended. Also, at this time, Lennie is feeling extremely lonely and feels like a burden to George. Lennie is saying how he just wants to let George live his life. George and Lennie were always thinking about their friendship, so when it came time for George to kill Lennie, he was thinking what was the most important thing for him was. The most important part about a true friendship is no matter how hard the times get, true friends always know what is best. This is just one of the many life lessons that Steinbeck wrote about. When George kills Lennie, he faces an internal conflict. He now has to live with knowing he killed his best friend, not out of selfish actions; but out out of love and loyalty. These men

A dream about raising rabbits on their own farm. A dream that gives them hope. This dream then expanded to almost everyone on the ranch. However when Lennie died so did the dream. There was no hope which lead Steinbeck to another theme; sometimes dreams are not meant to be reached, but rather set because it gives people a reason to strive for greatness. These friends set a goal to reach and give them a reason to keep on pushing through. When someone is doing something, they do it with a purpose. When Slim says, “Come on with me” (107) the reader can make an inference that Slim wanted to George away from Lennie and all of the memories he brought with him into their relationship. He wanted to leave the dream and he wanted to leave the Salinas Valley. Lennie became a little brother to George, but no there is no family. If George would just stand there over Lennie’s dead body, it would make him regret how he treated Lennie and possible do something to endanger himself or
