There was no hope which lead Steinbeck to another theme; sometimes dreams are not meant to be reached, but rather set because it gives people a reason to strive for greatness. These friends set a goal to reach and give them a reason to keep on pushing through. When someone is doing something, they do it with a purpose. When Slim says, “Come on with me” (107) the reader can make an inference that Slim wanted to George away from Lennie and all of the memories he brought with him into their relationship. He wanted to leave the dream and he wanted to leave the Salinas Valley. Lennie became a little brother to George, but no there is no family.
