Giving the capital state-like authority could have and still today potentially give the residents therein a superiority in the government. Being in such close proximity to the ‘Halls of Power’ would inevitably give DC more influence over the other states in the nation, which was a legitimate concern of the founders. The author stated that members of the government would become ‘unduly beholden’ to Washington; meaning DC would, due to their being the location of the central government, take on more power in the government or potentially have the ability to interrupt proceedings to get what they want. This was one of the primary reasons Washington DC was not afforded equivalent governmental representation; honestly, it may yet be a legitimate concern.
To conclude, Washington D.C, although possessing great influence over the country just by being a cornerstone in the culture and national pride of our Great Nation, it also possesses a significance in regards to the governing of the United States.
