A visual search experiment is an experiment in which an individual's reaction time is tested when finding a visual cue, like a green circle, and determining whether the visual cue is there or not. In the visual field, there also are other objects, called distractors, that aren't the desired visual cue. A subject is tested through two different techniques called a feature search and a conjunctive search. In a feature search, the visual cue would be shown, or possibly not shown, on the screen with distractors of a different color than the desired visual cue. In a conjunctive search, the subject must determine whether the visual cue is there or not there, but the distractors can be the same color of the desired visual cue. The distractors can also be the desired shape of the visual cue, but of a different color. After many trials, the goal of the visual search experiment is to determine which kind of search people can react quicker to when tested. The overall goal of the experiment is to test the attention of the subjects.

Video games are designed to be a challenge for the gamer, and developers are constantly pushing gamers to become better at more intricate games. With this in mind, developers are responsible for providing a smooth, functional game that doesn't strain the gamers, especially visually. The games must be well-designed so that the gamer clearly can see what challenges they are facing at any moment in time. The visual cues in the games must be spot-on in order to allow gamers to enjoy the actual gameplay element of these video games. Issues with basic game mechanics can be absolutely detrimental to a video game's success, which fully includes the visual portion of the game.
