In the past, children were always outside of the house adventuring around the neighborhood or playing a sport with their friends. In today’s world, many children are inside either on the computer, watching television, or playing on their video game consoles. In fact, “On average, girls spend more than an hour per day playing video games and boys spend more than two hours,” (Video Games and Children). However, this has begun to have a negative impact on children. Violence in videogames has become an issue among the children. There are many different video games out there. From Call of Duty, which empowers the gamer into pretending to be a part of the United States Army, to Grand Theft Auto, where the gamer takes on the different stories of …show more content…

Olsen, Sc.D…51 percent of boys involved in physical fights over the course of 12 months played mature-rated games, compared with the 28 percent who did not. Additionally, the study shows that girl gamers made up 40 percent of the girls involved in physical fights, also over the course of 12 months,” (Howell). Just within a year, if a child plays a violent video game, there is a high possibility that they will become more violent. They will then find no place in society, and may force the individual into depression, anger management, etc. Also, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry mentions that the children also become numb to violent circumstances, (Video Games and Children). They also wrote that children that are struggling with an emotional or mental problem are easily influenced by these violent images, (Video Games and Children). This should bother the loving parents that their child could witness a mass murder and be okay with it. Back when the Nintendo was made, they most violent games were in 8-bit graphics and can’t be easily discerned. These adults however, don’t realize that these new modern games have enhanced graphics where the child could get a clear visual of every bullet hole and drop of blood. Another adult could argue that these video games can help be some sort of relief to the children who already have aggression issues. This may be true in some cases, because some people do need a healthy stress relief, but not for children. Children will eventually question why they cannot harm more individuals in the real world if they do it so often in this digital universe. Playing violent video games as a child is not a healthy
