Essay On Video Games Should Be Banned

Many people think that violent videogames are to blame for most of the crimes committed nowadays. This is not the right way to look at things, since there are actual studies that show that videogames, especially action games, can enhance people’s cognitive abilities, relive stress and depression, and also help the economy. These studies have been done to see if there is any connection between videogame violence and actual violence. Yet lot of other studies have also shown the benefits of videogames in general. The violent videogames should not be banned because of their abilities to help people’s cognitive skills, relive stress and to entertain people.
The most important thing that violent videogames can do is enhance people’s cognitive skills. Cognitive skills are the human’s ability to process thoughts and memories, this also has to do with people’s reactions. According to Granic, Lobel, and Engel (2014) have found a study showing that shooter games have increased the spatial skills of people just as much as a courses which are meant to do the same thing. This is a big discovery since it could mean many people can enhance their cognitive skills by just playing some games. This also shows that our brains are easier to teach then we had thought before. There is also a study where Baveiler, Pouget, and Green (2010) found that shooter games help people make faster decisions which are just as accurate as anyone else. This can help many people with everyday things like driving, walking, and just anything that needs fast reactions. These benefit can help everybody but this isn’t the only benefit that videogames give people. Another benefit that can come from playing videogames is the fact that they can relive stress and depression. As written by Ferguson from TAMIU (2008) that shows no link between violence and violent video games. Yet this study also showed that violent videogames were better at reliving stress, than a non-violent game or no game at all. The study used 103 people who had to do a difficult task then told to play a game which was either: non-violent, violent with hero, violent as bad

This is the most common reason of why people should not ban any type of videogame, especially with how the economy is doing now. According to Ewalt (2013) in 2013 the U.S. spent about $20.5 billion on videogames which means there are a lot of people who already spend on video games. Forbes also says that out of 170 million people in the U.S. that play videogames, that 60% of these people spend money to play these games. This means that if the videogame industry were to be cut in any way the U.S. would be hurt by the loss of profit made from these games and the taxes collected on the same games. Also the Entertainment Software Association (2014) states that the video games industry can grow and will keep growing by about 5 percent until 2015. They also said that in 2012 the sales of video games reached $6.7 billion, all this money has been and will continue to help the United States’ economy to get better. This is why people should not ban any videogames, the economy of the entire country would be very hurt by the hit in loss of sales and taxes

Parents and teachers need to know everything that people talk about in violent video games. It is considered difficult to understand why violent video games and online computer games may lead to such serious violence. An experiment of the desensitizing effects of video games has illustrated that “violent video game exposure can cause desensitization to real-life violence” (Ferguson, 2011, p. 495). However, people who play violent video games may become pretty used to it. People addicted to video games have a hard time taking breaks from playing.…

Video Games Do Not Cause Violent Behavior Over the years there have been several incidents that have stirred up the emotions of people, parents and especially investigators. These incidents include the Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting, the Columbine Massacre, and the incident in Colorado where a man went on a shooting spree in an Aurora movie theater. Video games are helpful with enhancing cognitive skills and they actively teach problem-solving and creative ways of thinking that can be used in everyday life. They are motivating and goal-oriented, and they can be designed in so many different ways and be geared toward all different kinds of subjects and materials. If a video game is complex and difficult and requires so much time and effort to beat it, why do children still play them? Because they enjoy playing and being challenged, and because they are driven by the goal of beating the game, which makes all their time and effort worth it. The education system needs to look at how they can incorporate educational video games into schools to help encourage children to learn. The rest of the world is all about technology, and it is time for schools and learning environments to get up to speed so that students can learn in the same ways they experience life outside of a classroom; surrounded by technology and…
