My passion for science, beginning in childhood, initiated my interest in medicine and led me to becoming a registered veterinary technician. Here my curiosity regarding medicine was allowed to grow and evolve. Over time, however, I found my occupation to be less challenging and realized my need for something greater. After much thought, the obvious choice was to pursue a career as a physician.
My history of academic excellence gave me the confidence required to pursue medical school. I graduated third in my class in high school and in the top ten percent of my veterinary technology class, making medical school a reasonable goal. Throughout my life others have frequently perceived me as a leader, and consequently, I tend to naturally fall into leadership roles. During my career as a veterinary technician, I was placed in charge of a surgical ward and promoted to shift leader due to my superiors’ confidence in my leadership capabilities. The most fulfilling leadership role I have pursued is peer tutoring, as it is particularly rewarding to utilize my academic and leadership ability to assist others. As a physician, my natural ability to lead will serve me well, principally in the areas of patient education and the education of future
