Vaginal dryness can be caused by a drop in estrogen level.

A common cause of vaginal dryness is a drop in estrogen. Normally, the walls of the vagina are lubricated with a layer of clear fluid.

Our doctors will start the appointment by asking your questions about your health history and lifestyle. They will then perform a pelvic exam, and perhaps a Pap test, to help determine the cause of your vaginal dryness.

There are several treatments available for vaginal dryness.

There are several treatment options available for vaginal dryness and they will vary depending on what’s causing your dryness. Sometimes, vaginal dryness can be cured by something as simple as increasing the amount foreplay or using over the counter lubricant. However, if you’re vaginal dryness is caused by a lack of estrogen, other types of treatment are necessary.

Traditionally, doctors have treated vaginal dryness due to low estrogen with topical estrogen therapy. The goal is to replace the some of the estrogen that your body is no longer making. The three types of vaginal estrogen include: the vaginal estrogen ring, the vaginal estrogen tablet and the vaginal estrogen cream.
