Urinary system Objective: to distinguish key microscopic components of the renal cortex and the Meduna. Also identify the structural components of the nephron. Describing the structures of the surface across which, filtration occurs. Also, identifying the proximal tubule, distal tubule and connecting duct. Name and identify the ureter, bladder and urethra

Introduction: The urinary system consists of two kidneys. The urinary system performs many functions removing waste, products from the blood and regulating the bodies fluid, electrolytes, acid balance and producing a hormone call erythropoietin, which regulates blood cells formation. The urinary system helps detoxify the liver and certain compounds making glucose during times of starvation. The functions are all carried by the organs of the urinary system, mainly the kidneys. Other organs in the urinary system of the ureter, the urinary bladder and urethra.

The kidneys are pit to the back of the body. It is surrounded by many organs of the digestive system. The kidneys are protected by three layers of connective tissue. The outer layer is protected which is the Reno the renal cortex is the next region in the kidney. It is dark brown because it entails many blood vessels that helps filtrate the blood structures of the kidney which are the nephrons.

The next part of the kidneys is the renal medulla this is also known as the middle region of the kidneys. The Medulla consist of triangular structures, known as the Renal or medullary pyramids. The renal columns are in great extensions of the renal cortex. The columns contains blood vessels. Each pyramid contains tubules of the nephron with structures that drain the fluid from the nephrons.

The renal pelvis is the tubes that drain the fluid from the nephron and drain it into the larger tubules, called minor calyces that drain into the larger major calyces while, the renal pelvis collects the
