In the play of Romeo and Juliet there are two important characters, Friar Laurence and Tybalt. These paragraphs will explain the reasoning behind Tybalt being the most important character throughout the play. Tybalt is a character who is making the play flow in order. Each event that specifically happens is in a way linked to Tybalt. Though friar Laurence was associated with the event as well, Tybalt was the main character to make each event happen like they should have. Tybalt is the most important character in the play because of his action that have the most influence on the events that follow his actions. Tybalt approaches Mercutio after stumbling upon him while walking in the afternoon. Tybalt asked Mercutio if he can talk to Romeo specifically. In act 3, scene 1 Tybalt says to Romeo, “ Romeo there’s only one thing I can’t call you, you’re a villain.” From this quote on in the play Tybalt starts an argument about Romeo being a bad guy referring him to a villain. As the argument between Romeo and Tybalt evolve. Tybalt says to Romeo, “ Boy, your words cannot excuse the harm you’ve done to me. So now turn and draw your sword.” This quote shows that Tybalt has asked Romeo to fight him. Romeo explains to Tybalt that he will not fight him because they are now family due to the marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Eventually, Mercutio steps in to defend Romeo, and fights Tybalt. Mercutio is wounded by Tybalt, and Mercutio dies do to his wounds. After Mercutio is dead, Romeo gets angry and he fights and kills Tybalt. Romeo goes to Friar Laurence for advice after the fight. Friar Laurence tells him he is banished from Verona forever. If Tybalt were never to approach Romeo asking to fight him, Romeo would be in Verona with his wife Juliet living a happy life. If this event were to never happen Friar Laurence would not be apart of the play, because he would not have needed advice about what his punishment was for killing
