Chris McCandless from the jump comes off as an intelligent and hardworking young man. After a 3 nights stay within the trailer of Westerburg, he arrives in South Dakota as instructed by Westerburg to work. Chris left Westerburg impressed with his high work ethic. His death proved to be his ultimate showing of great arrogance as despite being warned that he was unprepared, only arriving with a few bags of rice, he continued on.
