Macbeth is a brave, strong and honourable warrior and a hero at the beginning of the play whose bravery leads him to the victory of a civil war. It can be noted that his bravery is one of the reasons for his tragic demise. Because of his bravery we could fight a war, lead his army to victory and the king of Scotland is forced to feel indebted for his service to him and the country. This makes the king to visit Macbeth’s palace to pay him his gratitude and the whole catastrophic incidents are first executed there. If he wasn’t brave these things couldn’t even have happened.

In the play he sees blood stained dagger which is his own imagination and he is made to believe that even the god wants him to kill the king as he sees the handle of the dagger pointed at him and the sharp edge to the king’s chamber. And even the blood stained on the dagger he imagines it to be the king’s ultimately making him to kill the king. His imagination goes to an extent of seeing the ghost of Banquo and misinterpretation of the three aspirations showed to him by the witches when he meets them for the second time. He imagines the prophecies of the witches to be in his favour and firmly fights a war with weaker army than that of Malcomn and Macduff resulting to a defeat. We come to know at the very first part of the play that Macbeth is a cousin to the king and they share same blood linage. Through his kinship he is one of the persons whom the king trusted and also he is close to the king. His blood relation to the Royal family also makes him believe even further of him assuming the throne. His hereditary position of the “The Thane of Glamis” which he assumes after his father is another factor that leads him to his downfall.
