Romeo meets a servant while out on a walk, the servant who is illiterate asks Romeo to read the paper. Romeo reads the paper and the servant decides to invite Romeo to the Capulets party held tonight. “And if you not of the house of / Montagues, I pray come and crush a cup of wine. Rest / you merry.” (I.2.81-83) The servant hurries off to deliver the invitations, while Romeo is instantly planning a way to get into the Capulets house and see Rosaline. If the feud wasn't in place this task would be an easy feat.
