Although Shakespearean plays were written over 300 years ago, the topics, themes and plots relate to modern day life. There are examples everywhere of those who follow the basic plots of Shakespearean plays throughout their lives without knowing it. Tonya Harding is a great example to prove this since her life almost exactly follows the main storyline of the play Macbeth. Tonya and the character, Macbeth share multiple character traits such as greedy, skillful and cowardly, and as a result they act in similar ways when dealing with their problems and in this case, use violence. Tonya Harding and Macbeth both prove that by using violence to satisfy their greed, their happiness will not last.

This is shown in act 1 scene 2 when a soldier was retelling Macbeth’s experience to the King, SERGEANT. For brave Macbeth (well he deserves that name)

In this scene, the soldier and King are both in awe as a result of Macbeth’s actions on the battlefield. The soldier was able to retell the story with great detail which illustrates how impressed he must have been, it shows the newfound respect he gains for Macbeth. This quotation enhances Macbeth’s character, as readers can understand that Macbeth does not feel any regret or sympathy when killing, making him into someone who would have no problem killing even those who are close to him.
