In this day and age there’s so many similarities between the Australian and United States political systems. Even though there are similarities there are also some differences. Australia and the United States has a system of government that preserves the concept of indirect democracy. Australia and the American system both are based on principles of political equality, majority rule and the preservation of minority rights. In today’s world the oldest continuing democracy is the United States and the first to hold down the concept of popular sovereignty. Differences between Australia and Unites States
A United States president is both head of state and head of government and is directly elected by the people. Whereas, the Australia’s head of state is the British monarch who is represented by a Governor-General chosen by the Prime Minister.
The government which consist of the ministry, cabinet and executive in Australia is comes from the parliament, whereas in the United States the Executive branch of government is independent of the congress.
The Prime Minister of Australia is chosen by the elected members of the party/parties in the House of Representatives, whereas the President of the United States is directly elected by the people and must appoint non-members of the congress to fill ministerial posts.
A 3-year term is served by the Members of the Australian House of Representatives serve a versus a 2-year term is served by the United States members of the House.
