If American government were not willing to accept those with different religious beliefs it would cause great uproar and be in danger of isolating more citizens such as the Anti Mormon Bill Debate that arose in Utah in 1870 where they tried to outlaw polygamy which is a religious practice of Mormons. This debate speaks to the extent to which the separation of church and state was enforced in this time period which was the late 1800 's. The government playing an integral role in the allowance of people to exercise a religious belief displays a political agenda to continuously interfere with the basic rights of a people simply because it 's different. Travelling to the early 1900’s there was even an attempt to unseat a Senator Reed Smoot because there was talk of him practicing polygamy. This problem gave way to many different religious groups rising up and protesting this attempt to unseat Smoot based on a religious practice and supports the argument that different people can liv in harmony with the notion that religious liberty will not effect this claim. Not accepting one based on their religion is prejudice and wrong and would continue to sprout problems because diversity is necessary in the continual melting pot that America
