When the girls were born their parents split, each taking one of the girls with them. Their mom took Hallie back to England, whereas their dad took Annie back to the states, more specifically Napa Valley, California. In England, Hallie lived in London in a nice, luxurious home. Her mother was a successful dress designer with a healthy income allowing them to live very comfortably in the big city. In contrast, Annie and the girl's father lived on a vineyard. Like Hallie, Annie also lived in a very nice home as their father also had a healthy income, but Annie’s home was larger and more of a ranch-style with a lot of property.
