We see Malcolm's strong vision and articulation early on in the film when discussing his personal statement with his high school principal. Malcolm is asked by his principal if he is taking his college personal statement seriously since malcolm wrote on his passion, the history of hip hop music. To this Malcolm replies “You are talking about something that I love, well reasoned, supported by historical data...I mean I could write about the typical ‘’’I'm from a poor crime-filled neighborhood’’’ but it's cliche.”(8:44). This alone stands strong with Malcolm's vision in not being a follower, and not doing the things people tell him to do, because he wants to express his creativity and he wants to become successful on his own accord. Malcolm shows another key characteristic of a charismatic leader; Personal Risk, which he shows in many scenes all through the movie, most of which is having to be due to his environment confronting him. Malcolm's personal risk is not shown greater than his risk in deciding on returning the bag full of drugs and money to the actual owner rather than returning the bag to the police station. This decision serves as the central focal point of “Dope” leading Malcolm on an adventure meeting Austin Jacoby, the actual owner of the drugs and
