History plays a very important role in our world and continues to make a great impact in our world now and further down in the future. I view history as a strong significate example of the past events, people and diverse cultures that influenced the world in tremendous ways and developed new changes along the years. I believe not knowing history is similar to not knowing yourself, who you are, where you come from, where you’re going in life and why you became the person you are today. I strongly believe history plays an important role in everyone’s daily life, whether that be through economic views, identity, communities, culture and religion therefore history should matter to society. For example, until this very day the community I live in celebrates Cinco De Mayo and Mexico Independence day, events that occurred ages ago are still being celebrated in our culture and different communities among different minorities. History is what brings diverse cultures and individuals together in our community by celebrating special events, holidays, parades. I believe every mistake, every lesson and every downfall we have crossed gives us a better understanding of how and why the choices we made didn’t work out like we thought they would, eventually we learn from it. Everyone should be open to history and acknowledge the different perspectives of the events that occurred at the time. In the video of why history matters, a historian by the name of Annett Gordon Reed mentions how we should “approach history with a spirit of curiosity be open-minded that the story is much bigger than it has been presented.” I definitely agree with her statement because how are you to grasp something without understanding and being open-minded of the situation, which in my perspective should be rule number one. In every scenario that has to do with the past it is always much bigger than what we read in the textbooks and what we were being taught because no one ever gives the full details of the situation something is always left
