The rise in sea level will also pollute the fresh ground water supply with salty water. According to the article “Global Warming Fast Facts,” the National Geographic News published news in June 2007 claiming that, “Coral reefs are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature and they suffered the worst depletion ever recorded. Some areas seeing bleach rates of even 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as the sea temperatures rise.” Reservoirs and water sources may dry up if temperatures increase drastically, particularly if rainfall also decreases. Global warming also has a striking effect on human health. There is a possibility of more heat-related diseases and breathing problems. The increase in air pollution is a very negative factor for human health. Pollution reduces the air quality and decreases the life span of humans. Many disease carrying flies, such as the mosquito will be able to spread in other parts of the world where it was colder otherwise. They will be able to survive and breed there as well. With this sudden change in temperature, more extreme weather is bound to occur. This can mean more storms, floods, droughts, tornadoes, and hurricanes. There is a drastic increase in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, which is said to have …show more content…
According to NASA 's Goddard Institute for Space from National Geographic News, “Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades (“Global Warming Fast Facts”). Man made causes such as industrialization, deforestation, and pollution have greatly increased atmospheric concentrations of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, and all greenhouse gases that help trap heat near Earth 's surface, in turn destroying the essential ozone layer. Humans are pouring carbon dioxide into the atmosphere much faster than plants and oceans can absorb it, causing an overdose of carbon dioxide and resulting in air pollution. These gases are said to carry on in the atmosphere for years. This means that even if we were all to try hard and eliminated many of these destructive emissions today, global warming would not immediately just stop. It would require a continuous effort for a long period of time to restore the loss that is acquired by years of wrong doing. Global warming is a serious matter which affects us all and the future generation. In order for a better healthier future, sustainability is a must, and it can be achieved through green
