Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. two planes crashed into the world trade center. Shortly after, another plane crashed into the Pentagon. A fourth plane was found crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The tragic news of this flashed over every media outlet in America. We were under attack. “It was a real wakeup call,” says everyone who experienced 9/11 (Source). From the aftermath of medical consequences to the fear of counterterrorism and the new wars, the effects of 9/11 left visible scars on America, the land of the free. After 9/11, many Americans faced traumatizing medical effects. From young to old adults, people suffered from (PTSD) Posttraumatic Stress disorder. According to Katherine Harmon, “Posttraumatic Stress disorder is characterized by trouble sleeping, difficulty controlling anger, losing interest in activities, flashbacks, emotional numbness and/or other symptoms” (#). Some adults experienced this from witnessing and being apart of 9/11, but others were because they lost close family members of their family. For example, Respiratory and cardiovascular problems markedly increased following the attack(Neria 45). Because of 9/11, it caused people to have hypertensive disease. metabolism, and diabetes mellitus (Olfson 48). Also, there was a significant increase in hypertensive disease between the year before 9/11 and the year after (Olfson 48).
