Background - While conducting the Enzyme Lab, students used enzymes as catalysts in order to speed up the reaction processes involved in several tests. Enzymes are substances produced by living organisms that act as a catalyst, while a catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of the chemical reaction. Furthermore, varying amounts of pH and enzymes were added to the mixture in order to determine the substance’s rate of reaction. When the reaction occurs, students are supposed to study and observe it until the substance becomes denatured. In this instance, the proteins are becoming denatured, which is the process of modifying the molecular structure of a protein. Proteins …show more content…
Then, you either include 3 milliliters of H2O (Water) or 3 milliliters of pH buffer, which is added to the substance in order to sustain the level of pH or enzyme concentration in the reaction. Once the pH or enzymes are added to the substance, students are supposed to quickly swirl and shake the mixture in order to mix all the chemicals together. Furthermore, a pressure sensor is connected to the test tube as it’s swirled around in order to measure and calculate the amount of pressure confined within the test …show more content…
First, students add a drop of water into the test tube with no hydrogen peroxide in order to display the water’s ability to sustain the reactants and products within the substance. It is also important for students to correctly order the chemicals when inserting them into the test tubes. Hydrogen peroxide is added first, which is decomposed and processed into oxygen gas by water and active yeast. H2O is then added in order to control the level of hydrogen peroxide in the substance. Finally, chicken yeast is added in order to speed up the decomposition reaction of the H2O2. Once all the chemicals are added, students are supposed to insert the cork into the test tube and quickly swirl and shake the mixture in order to combine all the chemicals together. Furthermore, a pressure sensor is connected to the test tube as it’s swirled around in order to measure the amount of oxygen gas confined within the test
