The historic movie takes place in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692. The Crucible is a tragedy and allegory. The Crucible is surely a movie for those who love drama. The film begins with Reverend Paris finds his daughter, Betty, with his niece, Abigail Williams, and many of the other girls from town dancing in the woods with his slave, Tituba. His daughter then becomes scared of getting in trouble and fakes being in a coma. This leads to the town believing that there are witches in Salem. Paris sends a message to Reverend Hale from a neighboring town to try discovering if it is truly witch craft or the presence of the Devil. After Abby is able to wake Betty, the girls begin to name off people who they are not fond of. She brings the truth to john, telling him that everything is fake and she just wants to be with him. The film makers were sure to take the viewer to the sight of how the people dressed in that time. The female dresses had a look of being worn and sewn together. While the men had their long socks and big coats over. The hair of the actors showed the effect of little shampoo and conditioner like we have now. When showing those who were thrown in jail, they were able to bring life to the fact that the character had been in a place with little water, hygiene needs, and change of clothing. Not only were the costumes convincing, but the make-up pin pointed the time line. After bringing John out of the jail, you could see the signs of periodontitis.
