Staying true to Arthur Miller’s Story The Crucible, Nicholas Hytner tells the story of Abigail Williams in her attempts to be with John Proctor. While Hytner did follow the basics of the story he unfortunately left out major lines of character development to add scenes of excitement to keep audiences interested.

By adding scenes in which Abigail and John are alone together and removing lines from Elizabeth, Hytner focuses unneeded attention on the two rather than looking at the actions of others to show their impact on the stories developement. By showing scenes in which Abigail witnesses the actions of Mary Warren he draws attention even further to Abigails psychosis rather than the importance of Mary Warren herself to the events of the future. This may add to the development of John and Abigail as character, however, it does significantly take away the importance and appeal of other character that Arthur Miller had given a relatively significant function with his
