Essay On The Criminal Justice System

Being a Criminal Justice major there are many important issues that are a concern to me and the society I live. The Criminal Justice System has three subsystems: Court, Police, and Corrections and each subsystem work together to protect the rights of its citizens and the rights of society to live without fear of being a victim of crime. Each of these systems has its own issues and controversy. But I would like to put my focus on the police departments and its issues and controversies. Specifically, police brutality in the United States. Police brutality is the intentional use of excessive force by an authority figure, which oftentimes ends with bloodshed, bruises, broken bones, and the majority of the time it ends in deaths. Police brutality has always been an issue for decades. But, in today’s society it has become a hot topic of discussion because more and more officers are using deadly force against civilians. …show more content…
It is a huge problem in a system that needs reforming. The majority of the time officers believes that they are above the law and they are really not because no one is above the law. They find everything a person does while in their presence a threat and even if it's just saying one little word. Police officers do a lot of things and get away with it. Somehow, their actions are always justified even when there is a witnesses and video footage to prove that their actions are not justifiable they still get away. That is why many of the recent police involved killings has sparked outrage in many of the US cities. It is something that really needs and fixing. This is one of the many reasons why I am majoring in Criminal Justice. I would use my platform to shed a light on all the different issues in the Criminal Justice system that plagues
