Really giving the conch control and authority for all the boys to follow. For instance Ralph says “we’ll have to have hands up like at school. He held the conch before his face and glanced round the mouth. I’ll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he is speaking” (33). In this quote Ralph connects the conch to raising your hand in school. So when someone is holding the conch they may be the only person speaking. This quote connects to my topic sentence by showing how the conch has control over the boys and how they consciously give it that power and control. I think this really helps the boys to have a sense of civilization.
