The Color Purple by Alice Walker, is a book about a protagonist named Celie were she starts at the age of 14 years old and as time passes she progresses in age. Celie came from an abusive home where she has 3 childrens with her father. After Celie’s mom died, her abusive cruel father basically forced her to marry and specific man named Albert. Albert has three kids already before even marrying Celie, and the oldest child is named Harpo. Celie didn’t like living in Harpo’s home at all until Celie’s younger sister named Nettie came to live with her. The two sisters have a bond that are like bestfriends and when Nettie goes and come back from school she would teach Celie what she has learned from school because Celie lacked in education and didn’t …show more content…
This would result a lack a communication between the two sisters so Nettie decided to send letters to Celie but Celie never received them. Eventually Celie grew up and she came a infertile, obedient woman. But, now it’s completely different she feels as in there’s no longer reason to live because she is no longer happy in these days. One day Harpo brings his new wife, Sophia this makes Celie shine and some reason now let’s people know of her existence. But, the two are completely different because Sophia is everything Celie is not; loud, boussy, and wear pants. The independence that Sophia has scares Celie because she has never experienced her own independence. When Harpo asks Celie for an advice on how to control his wife. Celie says just beat her because that’s all she ever experienced. Figuring Harpo takes Celie’s advice and beats his wife and later on Sophie left Harpo. Shug Avery comes to visit and she is known to be a traveling singer and wild ways and her love for men. Celie views her as beautiful and they create a longlife relationship. Shugs opens many opportunities for Celie and also building her confidence which is what she needs so she can know that she is beautiful
