This weeks reading, Walking This Path Together by Kundouqk and Qwel’shi’yah’maht, was very insightful to the Anti-Oppressive practises across Canada. I appreciated the in depth detail into indigenous studies, and could easily see the transition to all cultures. I was taken by the phrase, “best interest of the child”, as I have heard this phrase many times over my lifetime. (p. 40) The need to protect children has been thrust to the forefront of the country as if a necessity, but rarely is the child’s family or community been considered.…

The list includes: I’m helpful, I love to spend time with my family and friends, I enjoy doing my homework and studying, I enjoy time to myself to pursue my hobby, I am talkative, and an active listener. Some behaviors that I exhibit when I am sad: I am extremely quiet around friends, family, I can take things too personally, sometimes I am doubtful and/or worrisome, and stubborn. One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…

Throughout someone’s lifespan a person can endure many trials, tests, troubles, and obstacles. I have not come across anyone who has had a perfect life, and being in the human service profession I especially do not expect to ever find someone who has. As a professional in training I understand that I will be able to someday help others through difficult times in their life like finding a new job, arranging childcare for their children, comforting someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one, or a couple seeking help with their relationship. I also understand that I will be put in the situation to help someone who has different beliefs or comes from a different culture than I have. Such as helping a homosexual individual tell his or her…
