The Revolutionary war was the catalyst of United States’ legendary freedom. Throughout the countless calamities including the French and Indian war, taxation without representation, and the proclamation of 1774 .The unfair rule of the British Parliament onto their American colonies led an uprising, in efforts of the colonist to break free of the queen’s rule. The first American colony was found 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. The thirteen original colonies were Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North and South Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. The Parliament responded to these boycotts and unrespectful acts of revolts by passing the Intolerable Acts of 1774. The Intolerable Act closed the Boston ports until all of the tea that was thrown in the Boston Harbour the night of the Tea Party was repaid (Rabushka). The British blocked off the sea going near the harbour to prevent all trade goods from leaving or entering the ports. This act of authority from the British Parliament made the colonist even angrier with the British.

The massacre started when colonist threw snowballs at the British soldiers. Once hitten with the snowballs the soldiers shot and killed five patriots and injured six (Bercovitch).
